The ESWC champion will, for the third time, be of Asian origin. With the semi finalists WhO, ReiGn, Sky and TED coming from China and Korea, Asia has once again showed to be a leading nation in the WarCraft 3 world. As a matter of fact, only SaSe and ToD were the only non-Asians in the playoffs. But when eight turned four, only Asians remained.

SaSe performed badly against WhO, who simply couldn't be stopped. Druids of the Talon and the three-hero-compilation was not enough for WhO's raiders, spirit walkers and well-microed Blademaster. SaSe will have to go home and lick his wounds and prepare for the next offline tournament; the BlizzCon Europe qualifier.

Same went for SaSe's former team mate ToD, who lost against a steaming hot TED by a 0-2 score. TED is now one step closer to his first international achievement, and after his performance so far in this...

SaSe after ESWC 2007. Time for a title this year, Kim?Kim "SaSe" Hammar. Overrated. Invited to tournaments just because he has a lot of fanboys in China. That's often the sound of the European jungle drum, and especially the Swedish one. There have been numerous comments racking down on the Swedish Night Elf player, meaning that a player in such a position should perform better. However, Kim Hammar continues to qualify for the big offline events, continues to dominate and score important points for his teams in online leagues.

Just before the Electronic Sports World Cup, SaSe defeated his former team mate Yoan "ToD" Merlo in the WC3L when Team Alternate played Gravitas Gaming. Surely that was a sign of strength, and probably a moment of relief for the 'Swedish sentinel'. He knew that he was paired up...

It is a major difference winning a game with 2-0 or 2-1. That's a statement Grubby and Moon can sign under in bold after last night's second group stage.

The first group stage managed to swing by without any need to bring forth the rulebook to determine which player should advance. But the second group stage which started at 03:00 today, included three 'tie-breaker' situations.

Group A score difference
Sky > Grubby 2-0
Grubby > WhO 2-1
WhO > Sky 2-1

Sky map score:	3-2
WhO map score:	3-3

TED received the "bad" news from his Chinese friends Sky and TH000 while sleeping.
- I suffered serious jet lag and was sleeping when TH000 told me and Sky our second group drawing. I only knew I was with Lyn and SoJu, but not HoT. I then wondered how come I have always been drawn into 'Group of death' in 2 years, he says to Replays.net.

The Czech Republic player Martin "Bonecracker" Hušák was responsible for the first big upset in yesterday's opening rounds in San José. The Human player Bonecracker could see himself come out in first place of Group F after wins against WhO, SonKiE, Wolf and Firestrike.

Korean Orc player WhO was surely surprised when he was defeated in the first round group stage against the "newcomer" Bonecracker. The rest of the world was too, and surely Bonecracker himself as well. This gave Bonecracker a great opportunity to advance to the next stage, and he did so with good measure. A clean sweep in the group was a fact, which crushed the American SonKiE's dreams of advancing, as well as ESWC veterans Wolf and Firestrike.

Coming into the second group stage, with players with higher caliber, Bonecracker fell short. In the opening round he was...

While Moon is the most dominant player throughout the professional WarCraft history, he has not yet won neither Electronic Sports World Cup nor the World Cyber Games. Today, his journey towards an ESWC title begins.

Moon's toughest opponent in the first group stage is the Chinese Undead player TeD. Statistically Moon's best matchup is against Undead, but Moon surely remembers the last encouter between the two; in Return of the King, where Ted had his big international breakthrough.

But after seeing Moon's performance in the Korean qualifiers for World Cyber Games and in the NiceGameTV WarCraft League, Moon seems to be in great shape to be able to come out undefeated through his group.

All the betting sites, expert analysises and many of the players themselves have Moon as the top dog coming into this event.

Sky is one of the favorites for the championship title in the Electronic Sports World Cup. But 2008 has been a rough year for the Chinese superhuman. The only individual title he can place in the 2008 column is the second season's Neo Star League. For tonight's matches, Sky hopes to find his old shape from his reign in 2006.
- Right now, I’m trying to dig up my form from WCG 2006 to compete at this year’s ESWC. I haven’t won an international championship title in a long time, so I am really hungry for this one, writes Sky in his blog.

His history in ESWC includes on third and one fourth place. Back in 2005, he lost to Deadman in the semi final, and lost to ReiGn in the bronze match.

- During that year, I really gave my best shot in every single match, and I had a significant amount of luck as well. However, I was particularly afraid of...

Germany could sail through to the final in the European Nations Cup without XlorD.

After the success against Denmark in the first round, Germany could successfully continue their hunt for the gold medal in Leipzig's Games Convention. Last year's champions Finland were on the opposing field, which seemed to be no match for the local audience favorites Germany.

The team game was won by Germany by 2-1 score, which gave the German team machine the early lead. Alternate aTTaX player Dark could then defeat Sein, and former Mousesports player HasuObs was able to take down Bringer.

Today, Saturday, Germany can sit aside the first match round, as the consolation final will decide which team to oppose Germany in the final.

Germany gain another player tomorrow in the form of XlorD who was stuck in school the past two days. However, with the current shape of the German lineup, he does not seem too needed.

DowaQ: 'If we're not lucky... we'll get our ass kicked again'

Hello there Team Sweden player DowaQ, who is sitting aside the European Nations Cup...

The Swedish national team lost in the first match against Finland. Was it an expected loss?
- Well, we were most certainly the underdogs in that match considering we don't have our regular lineup, but I thought we would have a good chance of winning due to our great motivation lately.

Are the Germans tougher to beat on their homefield?
- I'm sure they are, it's not at all easier, that's a fact.

How much better would the team be should you and FuRy, being in your main lineup, partaken?
- To be honest I don't think we would be sooo much better, but quite a lot. I know that my shape is crap at the moment but FuRy's is hella good, so...

Finland awaits tomorrow. How should Sweden approach the match in order to win?
- They will surely be hard. I don't really know, except for one thing: If we're not lucky in our lineup then we'll get our ass kicked...

Only player from Sweden to win was EfFeCt who was placed against a Call of Duty playing Konna who made a quick comeback prior to the finals.

Myth surprised many in the NGTV WarCraft 3 League by advancing. Even himself.

After fulfilling his military service this January, Myth is back on the scene and once again performs the strategies he did several years ago. Winning his group, who was filled with top players as Moon, SocceR and ReiGn, surprised many. Even himself.
- I all-ined in the first match. I'm delighted to advance to Round of 16 with two wins, and I was surprised too, says Myth.

Moon and Myth's match was a trip back to memory lane. Myth went for mass towers and tanks.
- It was a big map, so I thought the combination of SpellBreaker + Mortar Team would be hard to deal with. Moon is very good at micro, especially multi-controlling his units, so I prepared to train siege engine, says Myth.

Winning against Moon, he was placed against SocceR in the Winners final. Played on Centaur Grove, Myth emerged victorious there as well.

Russia now announce that they unfortunately wont attend to the offline finals in Leipzig. The country to replace them is no other than Denmark and will together with Germany, Sweden and Finland fight for the title.

The reason to this sad announcement is a visa related issue where the application that was send in was rejected. This is what the Russian teamleader Dominic "sunny" Bougé has to say about the turn up:

I am really sorry it came this far again - Russia not at the ENC finals. I guess it is a really sad moment, because we deserved to show our offline skills at a big event. We all wanted to meet each other in Germany, but due to visa issues, the embassy decided to reject our application. Anyway, we wish Denmark all the best and hope they will make the best of our spot!
